Background and History of

(Renzo)

High Elf Myrmidon (Fighter) of Evermeet

Rensoverthierlos, a gold elf, was born into a military family on Faerun. For many of his early years, Renzo fought in many battles along side his father, uncles, cousins, and brothers. When he was about 40, his city was attacked by a large party of drow. Most of his family, including his father, mother, and siblings were slain. Some years after that, Renzo followed his uncle Hanzothierlos and retreated to Evermeet. Once there, they swore allegiance Queen Amlaruil and King Zaor and committed themselves to the protection of Evermeet.
He brought with him the few family possessions he could find from his home. This included his grandfather's memoirs. Arnorthierlos designed and oversaw the construction of Ascalhorn. Renzo may vaguely remember that the site for Ascalhorn was chosen because of what was buried beneath the site.
Fifty years ago, when Renzo was a mere palace guard, Queen Amlaruil sent him with a party of diplomats to meet with the drow in an effort to seek peace. While visiting the drow, one of the ambassadors was charmed. He was given a magical scarab to pass on to the Queen as a gift. As the queen opened its bone container, the scarab came to life and tried to crawl into the Queen's arm. With quick reflexes, Renzo fired an arrow to knock the scarab away from the Queen. Still under a spell, the traitor charged at the Queen. Renzo incapacitated him long enough for a cleric to bring the ambassador back to his senses. Renzo was promoted to Amlaruil's Chief Bodyguard, and he keeps the Scarab to this day as a trophy.
Rensoverthierlos was there when Queen Amlaruil met with the strangers. They were treated as heroes for their work returning the Sword of Ages. The Queen told Renzo that she hoped to help these heroes and protect them in their adventures. Renzo pledged to do anything she asked, even if it meant helping a drow. To aid him in his quest, Renzo was given two powerful weapons. One was the Gaebolg, a magical spear made from the bones of a sea dragon. So long as he wields it, he cannot be surprised. He was then given a bow that would allow him to shoot arrows as true and as far as Solonor Thelandria himself.

Hellgate Keep III
Renzo was sent to Silverymoon soon after the heroes with the mission to protect them in their endeavors. He was given a scroll with Amlaruil's seal describing his mission. He was allowed to present this to Alustriel who, from her sick bed, gave him her blessing for his mission.
He started by watching the heroes around the city. It was while on patrol that he saw Malaci jump from his second floor window. Renzo saw a drow in the room above, about to give chase, so he sank two arrows into his chest. Malaci soon escaped down the street, and his assailant disappeared back in the building. Renzo stayed with Malaci until he rejoined his comrades the following morning.
Realizing that the threats to Silverymoon and Alustriel were far from over, Renzo made his way to see Alustriel. She was already meeting with her advisors. He told them of the assassin who came after Malaci and recommended that they take steps to increase Alustriel's security. It was decided at this meeting that they should announce Alustriel's death to try and deter any further attempts on her life.
Soon after this, Renzo followed the heroes on their journey. Their encounter near the mouth of the cave was supported by Renzo. After Yasraena scouted ahead and was attacked by the drow, Renzo stayed behind to watch what the drow would do after she retreated. Renzo watched as two spider-driders were sent out in opposite directions to find the heroes. The heroes must have advanced sooner than they anticipated, because the heroes only had to deal with the orcs before entering the cave. Renzo guarded the entrance from the driders that were sure to return. The driders did return, and after an intense battle, Renzo managed to defeat them. Once this was done, after collecting one of the Gems of Seeing the driders carried, Renzo followed the heroes into the lair.
Renzo arrived in the main chamber just in time to see the heroes pass a monster of untold power through a secret passage. The giant wormlike creature floated in midair, its mouth of a thousand teeth surrounded by many arms. He did not know what this creature was called, but he recognized that its power was more than his bow could handle. Frustrated that there was no conceivable way to get past this creature to join the heroes, Renzo left the cave to return and defend Silverymoon. Surprisingly he sees the heroes on a hill overlooking the cave. Malaci falls as Fleabus and Yasraena destroy Raven. It was then that the drow army came into sight. With Malaci dead and Yasraena and Fleabus facing certain death, Renzo's mission had surely failed. Naturally his mission saw new life when the Knights of Silver arrived. Renzo tried his best to blend in with the Knights to fight the drow.

Hellgate Keep IV
For the next six months, Renzo stayed discretely close to the heroes. He routinely checked in with Alustriel as her condition improved. It was at this time that Alustriel gave him special access to the Knights of Silver. He had already fought beside many of them in the battle with the drow. Now he was given permission to lead them in the defense of the Realms. He followed Fleabus on his trip to check on the keep, where they both saw the black dragon Onyx.
Renzo followed the heroes on this new mission in much the same capacity as he did last time. He provided support from the rear, making sure the Cult of the Dragon did not attack them from behind. His talents were finally put to use as the heroes entered the lair of the dracolich. A Drake of the Blade Assassin was poised to follow the heroes into the cave. Rensoverthierlos fired two arrows into his back. This seemed to annoy the Assassin, who quickly hid in the trees. A tense cat and mouse game ensued. Since the heroes' victory against Onyx and Sammaster, Renzo has kept his watchful eye on the heroes and their mission to protect the Realms.

Hellgate Keep V
While the group tended to personal matters in and around Silverymoon, Renzo kept an eye on Hellgate Keep. After a few months, Renzo witnessed a large group leaving led by Nalfost. He overheard that they were going to Rammoth-Mor. Understanding this information to be too vital to the group, Renzo decided to reveal himself at last. The group was skeptical of him until Alustriel vouched for him. After that, the group teleported to Hellgate Keep and flew to Rammoth-Mor, the gateway to the Anauroch desert. Nevar, Yasraena’s love interest from Silverymoon, was there. He was really Raven in disguise. After an intense battle, Raven escaped, and the rest of his forces were defeated. The group spoke with a dead mage who told them Nalfost crossed the desert to Akentamun.
The group followed and after encountering a benevolent group of undead in the desert and freeing their souls to finally rest, found a pyramid surrounded by an impenetrable energy field. After searching for clues in the city a ritual began. A young woman was taken to the pyramid and sacrificed by Nalfost to summon Set’s avatar. The heroes defeated the avatar and the army of the undead, only to be greeted by Set himself. Renzo slew Nalfost with some well places arrows, only to have him resurrected by Set. Eventually the rest of the party killed him and put his head in a bag. They also took the sacrifice back to Silverymoon to negate the summoning spell. Renzo wasn’t able to follow them, so he tried to distract Set. He fired his bow at Set twice to try and stop Set from stopping the group’s plans. Renzo fired 2 shots that actually wounded Set. Set stopped everything and turned his attention to Renzo. Set and Renzo stood toe to toe as Set prepared to kill Renzo with a fraction of his effort. At that moment, the rest of the party resurrected the girl, disrupting the spell. They teleported back to Akentamun to get Renzo and Wilfbrim. Once there, Set used his last measure of power on this plane to transport the group to Sigil, the city of doors.
